A Question of Frequency

I must say it’s not the best IQ album… in all honesty, it has the raucheousness of the early material with a little bit of the spit and polish of the later stuff, but it’s no Ever for me.

Frequency is superb as a track, and Stronger than Friction pleases me very much – sort of IQ does happy happy joy joy (although perhaps not as happy happy joy joy as Sold on You and the various other wiffle from “Are You Sitting Comfortably?”).

Ryker Skies is also nice, but doesn’t seem to go anywhere… I feel it needs another section, but for me the high point – epic pompous prog at it’s finest – the magnificent The Province. Just marvellous… but watch the Genesis sections… careful people will talk 😉

The rest still hasn’t grown on me as of yet, and Closer does feel a bit formulaeic, almost prog by numbers, but I’m sure that it will grow on me.

On the Fleet Foxes new (and only) album, it’s good chill out stuff, and definitely trying to be Brian Wilson crossed with The Association and landing on it’s arse with a painful bump half way inbetween… again, a grower. I think it could end up on my regular list…

Finally, today, I was called in to visit a house near here to “look at their smoke detectors”. Being honest, I saw they were two generic battery powered units with flat batteries, and advised him that rather than me charge him £50 to replace them both, he would be better just going to B&Q, buying a couple, and replacing them himself.

At that point, I found out it was a trick house for a certain well known TV programme exposing naughty traders who rip people off… apparently, they have to use 2 or 3 people they call out of the local papers/phone books to get a comparative local price… I was one of the latter.

  1. Are we likely then to see you at all on TV then, as a “good” guy? Did they give you any programme times.

Darling, I'm a bit of a star myself, having been on “Market Kitchen“, oh… at least once now. 😉

Reminds me of that much-published story of the guy who got fed up with his smoke alarm beeping it's “low battery” warning in his bedroom, and took the battery out, forgetting to replace it. A few months later, he had a fire start in his house, and apparently, the heat caused the sellotape he'd stuck the detector to the ceiling with to melt, and it fell on his head, waking him up in time to get out!

(Sounds like a “The Sun”-type story, but I do remember it doing the rounds)
