Adventures in Doncaster

So it was Jake’s 27th on Saturday. He decided he wanted to go around Doncaster.

He also told me he was going to wear his new rose gold pvc jeans (ASOS, pretty much sold out now).

Not wanting to overshadow him I decided to go fairly vanilla – just a pair of jeans and an Oxford shirt. But when I jokingly said that I was thinking of wearing the PVC suit he said “mint!”.

Ok, I followed his intention…

It wasn’t too warm a day so I thought perhaps I could get away with it for a while.

We arrived in Doncaster and immediately I was a talking point. Loads of people commented on the amazing suit. Jake looked stunning in his outfit. Very metrosexual – quite flamboyant.

I was driving though so the only drinks I could have were Mocktails and low alcohol beers.

The night went as follows:

The Gatehouse -> The Wool Market -> The Gin Rooms -> The Red Lion

We left after the lion as my pvc suit was getting a bit clammy. It’s a great looking suit but it’s not really practical to wear on a day in day out basis.

The Old and the New

My new Galaxy Note 9 arrived.

My 18 month Galaxy Note 8 has served me very well and is a device I very much love, but a few features of the Galaxy Note 9 really sold it to me.

  • Bigger battery – less battery anxiety.
  • Bluetooth stylus – great for selfies
  • Dockless DeX – I use DeX loads!

I’ve noticed the bigger battery, although mostly because it takes a hell of a lot longer to charge. As for the DeX – that’s amazing. I’ve already ordered more cables. Actually the biggest annoyance with the DeX docks is actually having to remove your case to dock the phones – a little extra length on the USB C port would have stopped this being a problem.

So far, I love it. It really does feel like the Note 8 perfected.

As for the Galaxy Watch I also got, again, I love it. It’s the same as my old one, but smaller.

It seems to look more like a regular watch on my wrist, unlike the 46mm version which looks too big. This is more like the old Galaxy Gear 2 which I loved so much. The only downside is the battery life is nowhere near as good, but that isn’t helped by this one being 4G, so not only have I taken the battery hit from the smaller battery, but also from the 4G radio.

In other news, Jake got his first PVC jeans after I persuaded him… He’s the type of person who will really carry the look well.

Yet again… ASOS.

A Sartorial Post

Everyone’s doing these photo things… I thought I’d join in.

This is an outfit I’ve worn out a couple of times. It sort of mixes up looks and adds a bit of alternative in.

The photos on the right are details of the back pocket – yes they look like leather jeans, but actually they’re dress trousers. The back jetted pocket confirms that. They’re from BoohooMAN if you’re interested. Search “Faux Leather Trousers”. For pvc they aren’t actually too sweaty.

The middle photo is of my belt buckle. Those of you who are fans of Bones will know that.

The bottom is a nod to my nerdish leanings – my Galaxy Watch. I do love my smartwatch, although unusually, I prefer Tizen to Android. Android wear is a little too broken, plus the battery life even on the best models is still dismal.

Another gig weekend.

A very strange weekend.

Friday night was a late one for me. Hannah was in Bridlington and I was called out. A great but busy finish to a hectic week.

Saturday

Saturday was somewhat of an unusual day. A weather bomb was set to hit us from about 2pm, and sure enough it did. Rarely for this country we were forecast freezing rain and snow. We went to see mum. Her dogs are bonkers!

I had to go shopping for groceries before the weather bomb hit, and as I was on the way home it stated to drizzle. The roads became very slippery really quickly.

Thank God I got these…

Luckily we didn’t have to go anywhere else – although I had contemplated Asylum (our local fetish venue and a bit of a haunt for me), but the weather put me off. In the end I watched Krampus (great Christmas horror) and had an early night.

Sunday

Sunday, Unusually, was gig day. It’s very rare we gig on a Sunday with the covers band. This week’s club was local to me (Firth Park).

Not a great load – upstairs – although there was a small lift. It helped a lot, but it could only take one speaker cabinet at a time so the load in and out took a long time but wasn’t too tiring.

We set up in plenty of time to rehearse the new song (Pink). We did it so quickly we actually managed to put it in as an encore!

The bad thing about Sunday gigs though is that all the members of the band appeared to be loaded up with sprouts. It was very windy backstage!

To wrap up a long evening, I arrived home at 1am to find a dickhead had parked overlapping our driveway by a good 18″. I consider myself to be quite good at reversing and I struggled with this one.
